2022 WM Phoenix Open odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from model that’s nailed 7 majors

Rickie Fowler has seen a dramatic drop-off after winning the WM Phoenix Open in 2019. In fact, Fowler has failed to win a PGA Tour event since 2019, and he’s finished T-40 or worse in five of his six starts this season. Fowler has missed the cut in each of his last two events and enters the 2022 WM Phoenix Open ranked 127th in scoring average (71,415).

Despite being a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, Fowler enters this week’s event as an 80-1 long shot according to the latest 2022 WM Phoenix Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Jon Rahm, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, is going off as the favorite at 15-2, with Justin Thomas (14-1), Patrick Cantlay (16-1) and Viktor Hovland (16-1) next in line on the PGA odds board . The action gets underway from TPC Scottsdale in Arizona on Thursday, Feb. 10. Before locking in your 2022 WM Phoenix Open picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it’s up almost $ 10,000 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

Earlier this season at the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, the model was all over Viktor Hovland (18-1) winning his third PGA Tour title.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top-20. McClure’s best bets netted over $ 2,200 at the 2021 Open Championship.

In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. And at the 2021 Masters, McClure nailed Rahm’s (+250) top-five finish in his best bets, as well as Corey Conners’ (+550) top-10 showing.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the WM Phoenix Open 2022 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 WM Phoenix Open leaderboard.

The model’s top 2022 WM Phoenix Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open: Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time champion of this event and one of the top favorites, stumbles and does not even crack the top-five. The 29-year-old has already secured two victories this season, finishing on top of the leaderboard at the Zozo Championship and Sony Open. He’s also finished inside the top-15 in three of his last four starts.

However, Matsuyama has struggled mightily with his putter this season, ranking 183rd in strokes gained: putting (-.452), 139th in total putting (256.1) and 104th in overall putting average (1,605). In addition, Matsuyama failed to crack the top-40 at this event last year, which does not bode well for his chances to win this week. He’s not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the WM Phoenix Open 2022 field.

Another surprise: Brooks Koepka, a 35-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

Koepka is the defending champion of this event, and he’s a proven winner on the PGA Tour. Koepka has eight career victories on the PGA Tour, which includes four major championships. He seemingly saves his best performances for big events and with three of the top four in the Official World Golf Ranking in this week’s field, this is the perfect opportunity for Koepka to make a statement.

In addition, Koepka enters this week’s event ranked inside the top-50 in a number of important statistical categories, including birdie average (4.56), putting average (1,715) and overall putting average (1,571). Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make him a strong value pick at the WM Phoenix Open 2022.
