Teams can start negotiating with their own Reserved Players and any Limited and Unlimited Free Agents on January 15th. From February 1, teams and players can finalize transactions and sign contracts and offer sheets.
UNLIMITED FREE AGENTS Players with five or more years of service will become unlimited free agents. An Unlimited Free Agent is free to sign with any team, provided they are not designated a Core Player by their previous team. Any players with less than five years of service who do not receive qualifying offers will also become unlimited free agents.

LIMITED FREE AGENTS – Players with four years of service can receive qualifying offers to become Limited Free Agents. Limited free agency gives the player’s previous team the right to sign the player by matching a contract offer of another team (Right of First Refusal). If the player signs a Flyer with another team, the player’s previous team has four days from the date they received the Flyer to determine if he wants to match. If the offer matches, the player will stay with their previous team. If the offer does not match within the four day period, the player will be under contract with the offering team.
