A look at 3 key Premier League games this weekend

The 2021-22 Premier League season continues this weekend as Manchester City look to extend their incredible run to 13 straight victories.

The Citizens’ 1-0 victory over Chelsea last week saw them increase their lead at the top of the table to 11 points with 16 games remaining, albeit nearest challengers Liverpool do have a game in hand.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United did their top four credentials a world of good with victories midweek. The Red Devils were fairly comfortable 3-1 winners away to Brentford, though did rely on two huge saves from David de Gea at 0-0 in the first half.

Steven Bergwijn was the talk of Wednesday night as the Dutch international scored a brace after the 95th minute to help Spurs cap off a sensational turnaround, beating Leicester City 3-2 at the King Power Stadium.

Watford vs Norwich City

This weekend’s fixtures kick off towards the bottom of the league though as Watford host Norwich City on Friday night. Only three points separate the bottom four and it’s the Hornets themselves who start the weekend directly above the drop zone, just one point above this weekend’s visitors.

The Canaries ended a six-game losing streak with their 2-1 victory at home to Everton last week. Shortly afterwards, Rafa Benitez was relieved of his duties at Goodison Park.

Watford’s form is even worse – their 1-1 draw away to Newcastle United last Saturday ended a six-game losing streak of their own. Surely one of these two have to come away with all three points from Vicarage Road ?!

Manchester United vs West Ham United

It’s a little surprising that this game has not been moved for television coverage in the United Kingdom. Not just for David Moyes returning to his old club once again, but West Ham head into the weekend in fourth spot, just one point above Spurs and two above both Arsenal and Manchester United.

With the two North London rivals not playing until Sunday, Ralf Ragnick’s side would be sitting in the final UEFA Champions League spot at the end of the game if they took all three points. As it’s a 15:00 GMT kickoff the game is not shown on TV in England, but you can follow this game and other Live Football Scores online.

Whilst United were in West London midweek, West Ham have had the week off to rest and prepare for this game following their surprise 2-3 loss at home to Leeds United last weekend.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Premier League concludes with arguably the most-anticipated match as London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham meet at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea’s recent dip in form, winless in their last four and just one win from their last seven, has seen them fall 12 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City and essentially out of the title picture.

They still have a very strong hold on Champions League football but a defeat this weekend could see them looking over their shoulder a lot more than they have done so far this season.

Spurs have the opportunity to close within six points and would still have four games in hand. Antonio Conte remains undefeated in the Premier League at this new club, since taking the reigns at the beginning of November. Could his former team hand him his first defeat?
