Ajayi: West Bromwich Albion have a “belief” to avoid relegation to the Premier League

West Bromwich Albion center-back Semi Ajayi has stated that his team believe they will avoid relegation to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Super Eagles star has been in full form this season with his strong defensive performance at the Baggies and has scored three goals in 25 appearances for the club.

Despite his best efforts, West Brome remain in 19th place in the Premier League table with 18 points from 29 games.

Ajayi has expressed optimism about Baggies ’chances of maintaining a high level of English at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

“It’s not easy. We’re desperate right now and we need points first,” Ajayi said. BBC Sport Africa.

“I would say they’ve all written to us, but we certainly haven’t really written. We’re still fighting, we haven’t given up yet.

“We still have faith, we have hope and it’s about taking a game one by one. Giving it the maximum level and we’ll see where it takes us. Hopefully that will keep us in the top league, but we’ll definitely give up.”

Nigeria will host the Republic of Benin in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations match on Saturday at the Porto de Novo Stade Charles de Gaulle.

The Super Eagles will compete against Lesotho in the final match of the Afcon standings, which will be played at Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.

Ajayi, made up of Gernot Rohr’s 24-man squad for the meet, revealed that his team is well prepared for the game.

“We are very ready, we have had these tools in mind since November to basically get the job done. I think everyone wants to go out and qualify this nation for Afcon,” Ajayi added.

The win over Benin will seal Nigeria’s place in the Cameroon biennial tournament and take on Lesotho in the final standings to be played in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles finished third in the final edition of the Egyptian continental championship, behind the winners of Algeria and Senegal.
