Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is putting together a heavyweight showdown between longtime veterans Alexander Gustafsson and Ben Rothwell, a titanic tilt for the UFC “Fight Night” event on May 21 in a city and place that still must be determined.
This is according to a report by Forehead online.
Gustafsson, 35, jumped to heavyweight after losing consecutive fights against Jon Jones and Anthony Smith. Unfortunately for the 18-7 “Mauler”, Fabricio Werdum’s skillful submission skills were too much for the towering Swede, who succumbed to a first round armbar in the summer of 2020.
The 40-year-old Rothwell (39-14) is also looking back for a defeat in the first round after being beaten by Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC Vegas 42 in the “L” column last November. The hot-and-cold “Big” Ben managed to blow his way the Top 5 just a few years back, but has since dropped five of his last eight.
Featherweight opponents Felipe Colares and Chase Hooper also took part in the UFC “Fight Night” event on May 21. Although no major event has been announced yet, you can expect more fighting card announcements to start pouring in over the next few weeks.
