AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots: what is known so far
However, German researchers said that these notebooks appeared more frequently in people who had never been shot in AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine recipients than would be expected.
What symptoms should doctors and vaccine recipients look for if they have a harmful reaction such as blood clots?
European regulators recommended that people receiving the vaccine seek medical help some possible symptoms, including swelling in the legs, persistent abdominal pain, severe and persistent headaches, or blurred vision and injection, including small blood stains beyond the area given.
Because this set of symptoms was so blurred, almost immediately, emergency rooms were proliferated by the British in patients who were concerned that they matched the description. As a result, some emergency physicians have called for more central guidance on how to focus on what they described as largely unnecessary hospital visits.
German researchers have described specialized blood tests that can be used to diagnose the disorder and have proposed treating it with a blood product called intravenous immune globulin, which is used to treat various immune disorders.
Blood anticoagulants or medications called blood clots can also be given, but not the commonly used one – heparin – because the condition associated with the vaccine is very similar to what rarely happens in people who are given heparin.
Do vaccines cause other bleeding disorders?
Other vaccines, mainly due to measles, paper and rubella, which are given to children, have been linked to levels of platelets that have fallen temporarily, a blood component that is essential for coagulation.
Platern has dropped to Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines. A Florida doctor killed a recipient as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage, the level of his platelets could not be recovered and others were hospitalized. U.S. health officials have said they are investigating the cases, but have not reported the effects of those reviews and have not yet indicated any links to the vaccines.
