Bellator 273 Predictions – Ryan Bader vs. Valentin Moldavsky: Battle Map, Chance, Start Time, Live Stream

Ryan Bader has apparently completed the light heavyweight section of his career. Now it’s time to see what the Bellator heavyweight champion had left in the land of the giants. Opposite Bader at Bellator 273 stands Bellator’s interim heavyweight champion Valentin Moldavsky, a pupil of Bader’s recent enemy Fedor Emelianenko.

Bader previously held the company’s heavyweight and lightweight belts simultaneously. A unanimous victory over Lyoto Machida at 205 pounds was between failed title defense against Vadim Nemkov and a 51-second TKO loss against Corey Anderson. Bader (28-7, 1 NC) is undefeated in four heavyweight fights, defeating Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal, Matt Mitrione and Fedor Emelianenko to win the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix and win the belt.

“My only focus is on heavyweight. I see no reason to go back to light heavyweight. When I lost that light heavyweight title, I planned to stay at heavyweight,” Bade told CBS Sports. “But I’m open to new things, cool things. They have the [Light Heavyweight] Grand Prix. I thought, ‘Why not. It can just be a little gravy on top. Why not try to win it too? ‘ Now that I’m only on heavyweight, I see myself focusing on just heavyweight. ”

Some suspect retirement is on the horizon for the champion; however, there is still juice left to squeeze out of “Darth”. Heavyweight generally caters for older fighters and Bader still has a roundness that is absent for most of Bellator’s big boys. He has a speed advantage, powerful boxing and a wrestling pedigree to support. Linton Vassell had wrestling success against Moldavsky, something Bader hopes to exploit.

Watch the full interview with Ryan Bader below.

“He is fast here and there in jumps, but that is when he comes straight or moves back,” said Bader. “Vassell was out there and took him down the first few laps pretty easily. Vassell kind of grabbed him out. He swept a few times and Vassell got tired and Moldavsky ran away with it.”

Moldavsky seeks retaliation for his mentor, Emelianenko, at Bellator 273. The two-time world sambo champion is a perfect 6-0 inside the Bellator cage. Moldavsky (11-1) made a unanimous decision on Timothy Johnson in June to secure the interim heavyweight title. He’s the betting favorite on Saturday’s card, driven by his unbeaten Bellator record and Bader’s turbulence at light heavyweight. Moldavsky, a tad smaller for the division, is an excellent example of the mobile heavyweights that are starting to replace plodding power punchers of the past.

The four-fight main map also boasts former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson against Dagestani wrestler Islam Mamedov. One number apart in the official Bellator rankings, it’s a crucial match for two fighters leaning in opposite directions. Henderson (28-11) comes from three consecutive defeats against Brent Primus, Jason Jackson and Michael Chandler. Mamedov (20-1-1) beat Primus in his Bellator debut last July by a split decision.

On top of that, emerging English prospect Aiden Lee is back on the main map when he tackles veteran Henry Corrales on featherweight. Lee, 26, has won three of his last four since making his Bellator debut with a loss to Saul Rogers in 2019. His second defeat since joining the promotion was against another top prospect for Bellator MMA in Aaron Pico, who tied him up in an anaconda suffocated last June. Corrales, meanwhile, have been 3-3 since 2019 and took a win over Vladyslav Parubchenko last October.

Ryan Bader vs. Valentin Moldavsky: Moldavsky is surely the most complete heavyweight Bader has encountered. He is a well-rounded sambo specialist with some explosiveness and the guidance of probably the best heavyweight in MMA history. Fans and gamblers sell Bader short. The heavyweight champion’s losses at light heavyweight were against two men who could probably rank among the top five. Furthermore, Bader has a full match against heavyweight that will present problems for Moldavsky. Bader is fast and has great power in his shots, especially a nasty left hooker. Most importantly, if Vassell can get Moldavsky on the ground, so can Bader. Moldavsky will not go out, but expects Bader to lead a tiring pace of takedowns and ground strikes. Choose: Bath by unanimous decision
