Benefits of a cold shower / bath

Hello there guys! How are you? Today I would like to cover the benefits of bathing with cold water.

  • It wakes you up faster than a coffee cup. Are you struggling to shake off morning grogginess? Freezing water increases the production of norepinephrine and dopamine, two hormones that move your nervous system into a sympathetic state – which essentially means that it is a great way to bloat.
  • Relieves stress. As the first point mentions, cold water increases the production of norepinephrine and dopamine. Dopamine is a happy hormone. It’s that simple.
  • Make the day easier. Once you have overcome your cold shower in the morning, things become less difficult as you have built up momentum by doing something difficult.
  • Improves circulation. It can feel uncomfortable to immerse our bodies in cold water, but it can also be invigorating. This is because water that is colder than our natural body temperature causes the body to work slightly harder to maintain its core temperature.
  • Helps fight common diseases. Our bodies are designed to withstand the elements to which we are exposed. For example, leukocytes help fight infection in the body. The shock of cold water in the bloodstream stimulates leukocytes. This means that taking cold showers can help your resistance to common diseases, such as colds and flu.
  • Increases metabolism. Counter-intuitively, an icy bath or shower can help you warm up before training. It turns your body’s internal thermostat around, boosts your metabolism and kicks off your built-in heat-producing mechanisms – an energy-intensive process that burns calories.
  • Accelerate post-workout recovery and facilitate DOMs. This is how: it narrows the blood vessels near the surface of your skin, leading blood to your nucleus – a process known as vasoconstriction. “The alleged recovery benefit is that it reduces swelling and inflammation in the muscles,” says sports scientist Adam Ridler, a master coach at Ten Health and Fitness. “It helps to remove waste products and lactic acid. When the body begins to warm up, vasodilation takes place, which pumps fresh, warm blood around the tissues, which brings nutrients, oxygen and helps with recovery. ”
  • Build your resilience. “Cold showers definitely help with mental resilience,” Hayes says. “Having just one is in itself an achievement of willpower. You train your body and mind to step out of your comfort zone, making you stronger and more resilient. Things that once felt really tough can suddenly feel a lot less tough as you can tolerate more physical and mental discomfort. ”
  • Increase testosterone. When athletes were subjected to extremely low temperatures after a strenuous sprint session, the concentration of testosterone in their saliva two hours after their workout was 21 percent higher and 28 percent higher after 24 hours, sports scientists at Swansea University found. Because they were athletes, they used a cryotherapy room, but a cold dip would work just as well.
  • Keep skin and hair healthy. Hot water extracts oil from the skin and thus dries it out.

And that’s it for today. My proposal? Start taking cold showers. Do this gradually.
