Benson Henderson struggles Islam Mamedov at Bellator 273

Bellator 273 saw Benson Henderson and Islam Mamedov clash in the co-main event.

It was an interesting evening for Benson Henderson, as he was able to gain a victory over Islam Mamedov in his hometown by divided decision at Bellator 273. Henderson almost completed the fight in the first round and locked Mamedov in a guillotine throttle for almost 90 seconds, until Mamedov was able to unwind.

After a second attempt in the second round, Mamedov responded with a set of barely-naked chokes of his own to end the second. Songs from “Benson” rang out in the first seconds of the third round, while the two men exchanged a few leg shots. The duo landed on the ground again when the clock ticked away.

Benson Henderson is unsure he will fight again

During the post-fight interview with John McCarthy, Henderson made it clear that he was not sure if he would fight again, and was happy to possibly walk away with a victory. This was referred to before reading the results as he spoke to Khabib Nurmagomedov about his potential future. Henderson had 12 fights in Bellator and went 6-6 in his tenure with the promotion.

Bellator 273 takes place on Saturday, January 29, 2022, live from the Footprint Center, Phoenix, AZ. Follow FanSided MMA for all your news and highlights.
