BK scored 17th at Kansas

On a day filled with pitfalls and sour luck that robbed points, Brad Keselowski and the no. 2 Discount Tire team overcame accident to keep its NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 playoff hope alive. Keselowski finished 17th, but left Kansas Speedway just six points below the fourth-place cut-off position in the NASCAR Series drivers’ standings, entering next week’s event at Martinsville Speedway.

Phase 1 could not have gone worse for Keselowski as the former Champion ran ninth when he brushed against the outside wall in lap 32 and went under green six laps later due to a cut tire, which dropped him two laps down . Keselowski would continue to complete the innings in the 30th position, after which he would pit for four tires plus damage.

Keselowski did not make significant ground during Phase 2, but the balance on the Discount Tire Ford Mustang improved significantly thanks to the cloudy weather conditions and adjustments by crew chief Jeremy Bullins. He was credited with a 27th place finish when the segment finished at round 160. Bullins and Keselowski made the call to pass on the opportunity to be careful during the stage and take the wave around. Keselowski finished 22nd in round 167.

The third and final shift was anything but boring for the Discount Tire team. Keselowski worked twice in the free pass position as the first car one lap down, but a timely yellow flag never fluttered. On a positive note, the Discount Tire Ford suffered damage due to contact with a patched car to start the stage, but the team was able to quickly make repairs and continue. When the race entered its closing laps, Keselowski was again in the free-pass position, but the race remained green until the end, leaving the driver of the Discount Tire Ford with a 17th place finish.

“It was a tough race. We all fight just too hard. I love that I did not get out of it anymore. “I had a great opportunity to score a lot of points and make it easy next week, but we are still not in a bad place, just not as good a place as we can be,” said Keselowski. . “The Discount Tire Ford was very good in the cooler air and the sun came out and it just affected us. We were damaged and we still had reasonable speed when the sun was behind the clouds, but we could not get it to stay there. ”
