Commesso repeats as goalkeeper of the month UPDATED


Second net keeper Drew salesman has earned Stop-It Hockey East goalkeeper of the month honors for January, repeating the recognition he won in December. The native of Norwell, Mass., Who is on his way to the Beijing Winter Olympics with Team USA, won six of seven starts in January with a 1.70 GAA and a .946 saving percentage. In December, he was 2-0-1 with a 1.59 GAA and a 1.59 save percentage. Junior Jay O’Brien, with four goals and five assists in January, was runner-up for Player of the Month.

With 2-1 behind after two periods, the Terriers burst loose for four end-time goals to thwart Colgate’s upset hopes with a 5-3 victory at Walter Brown Arena. Early in the third period, BU found the net three times in four minutes on goals by Bob Gryp, Paul Giandomenico and Toot Cahoon. The Red Raiders reduced the lead to 4-3, but Bob Brown‘s second goal on the 16-minute mark hid the match. BU had 57 shots on goal, including 20 in the pointless first period. Goalkeeper
Ed Walsh, fill in for injured Dan Brady, achieved the victory when BU improved his record to 16-2-1.

Brady’s injury necessitated Tim Regan‘s early departure from the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan, where Team USA would win a silver medal.
