Despite recent reports that the Brooklyn Nets will not entertain a James Harden deal before next month’s deadline, speculation continues that Harden will join the Philadelphia 76ers as soon as this off-season. And the reasons for that are starting to wander to toddler and conspiracy area.
Harden is known as good friends with Michael Rubin, co-owner of Sixers. Competitive front offices believe the two talked about Harden joining Philadelphia this season as a free agent. And those teams are willing to ask the NBA to look at possible tampering and collusion on the part of Harden, Rubin and the 76ers.
Harden’s future in Brooklyn is in doubt as he did not sign an extension earlier this season. With a player option for the 2022-’23 season, Harden has a great deal of flexibility with his next contract. He can sign and sign an extension with the Nets, or he can withdraw and sign a new five-year contract with Brooklyn. Harden can also withdraw and look for a sign-and-trade to a new team, including Philadelphia.
