COVID is the third leading cause of death in 2020

THURSDAY, April 1, 2021 (HealthDay News) – Discovery that shows a high toll pandemic America has taken it, a new government report confirms that COVID-19 2020 became the third leading cause of death.

Researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have said more than 547,000 lives have been lost against COVID-19 since the pandemic began last spring. Only the two biggest long-term killers, heart disease and cancer, killed more Americans in 2020.

In 2020 alone, COVID-19 was the cause or causative factor in the deaths of 377,883 people in the United States, or just over 11% of the 3.3 million people who died last year. CBS News reported. Meanwhile, heart disease caused 690,882 deaths and cancer 598,932 deaths.

The highest mortality rates of COVID-19 were recorded among those over 85 years of age, Native American, Hispanic, and male. CBS News they complained that the Spaniards had hit him hard. The pandemic nearly doubled the number of “unintended wounds,” making it the third leading cause of death in 2019.

“The data should serve as a catalyst for each of us again [to] continue to do our part to alleviate cases and reduce the spread of COVID-19 and vaccinate people as soon as possible, ”CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a media appearance Wednesday. NPR reported.

2020 was already a deadly year in U.S. history. The CDC recently estimated that average life expectancy fell by a full year in the first half of 2020, CBS News reported.

Some have questioned the number of deaths at the CDC, largely because state and local officials determine the cause of death. CBS News reported. But in a second report published in the CDC Morbidity and Mortality Week Report on Wednesday, the CDC concluded that the amount of COVID-19 deaths was uncertain. Analyzing the death certificate data, according to the agency, 97% of cases have documented other details related to the disease. CBS News reported.

The report warned the CDC that there is a drop in the monthly rate coronavirus the deaths have stopped.
