CRAWFORD “NO PROBLEM GETTING INTO A DOG FIGHT” – B&B Promotions

By now the boxing world knows that current P4P and WBO World Welterweight champion, Terence “Bud” Crawford steps in the ring to face on paper, his biggest threat, in former 2 x World Champion Shawn “Showtime ” Porter on Saturday night in Las Vegas. However, what they do not know is what little things, what little comments are being said throughout the media leading up to perhaps a classic Welterweight slugfest.

As I watched and listened to all the interviews by Team Porter and respectively tweeted all month long with his legion of fans, there were some things that I clearly wondered if they caught Bud’s attention. While it is understood that most fighters do not pay much attention to the talk and truly view it as “selling” the fight … something told me Bud was listening.

This past Saturday night at the official Hometown sendoff for Crawford at the beautiful Carson Wealth Headquarters located in Omaha, Nebraska, I was able to check in with “Bud” and see in fact if my hunch was correct.

Crawford, was smiling, in good spirits, thankful and appreciative for all the wonderful fans that showed up but when I sat down with him presented the following questions, his demeanor changed and he was locked in.

BG: Hello champ, I’m sure you get quite tired of the questions and are just ready to get in there and perform. Let’s get the informalities out of the way. Are you happy with the opponent and opportunity that is in front of you on Saturday night?

Crawford: Of course, I feel like I’m finally in a position to where my opponent is respected by the so call experts, he’s been in there with the top names, has never been stopped and is a former 2 time champion, he has all the accolades that will bring out the best in me come fight night. With the previous PPV’s the critics said I did not have the right opponent in front of me,

Shawn has proven time after time that he not only comes to fight, but that he realistically is 2-3 points away from being undefeated in those 3 losses.

BG: I agree with you completely. He’s truly one of the nicest guys outside of the ring but inside the ring he brings plenty of aggression. Speaking of him bringing it, I keep seeing and reading plenty of videos, where he mentions that you have not been in there with anything like him, that he’s different. What makes him different or do you even see it that way?

Crawford: He’s saying what he’s supposed to say. At the end of the day all these guys come up with a plan, tell everyone what they see, what they are going to do. I’ve heard it all, it used to be that he’s too small, he’s not a natural 147, then he gets hit too much, then he is not fighting anybody that’s a threat. But, what happens when they are actually in the ring with me or what do they say after the fight? Like I said, I respect his craft but my job is for him to respect mine.

BG: Speaking of one another’s craft. I have noticed that as we get closer to the fight he stated that the main difference that will decide this fight is that he simply has more dog in him and that he plans on making you feel uncomfortable in there. He even went on to state that he needs to be like a Junkyard dog. I knew when he said that … perhaps you were listening. Were you in fact?

Crawford: Listen, I get bits and pieces, or things are said at pressors. He may think he’s playing mind games, or maybe he even believes what he’s saying. He also has admitted on other occasions that I remind him of himself. So if he’s a dog that makes me an even bigger dog.

BG: What folks do not know is you’re an avid dog lover and owner. How many dogs do you have now?

Crawford: I have 8 dogs, they vary in different breeds, pits, shepherds, you name it.

BG: Wow, 8 dogs, all trying to be the loudest, toughest and most respected in the house. So when Shawn is saying that he is a dog and that he will make you uncomfortable in there, you disagree completely?

Crawford: Yes I do. 8 dogs and guess who’s their master? Me. I’m the alpha and they learned that from day one. All that barking and growling that’s being done by Shawn won’t work on me.

BG: Some folks have stated that Shawn can lead with his head, go low, make the fight ugly, and try to win at all costs. What happens when Shawn bites you, excuse me, I meant punches you off the break or low?

Crawford: He bites, I bite back … I mean punch back.If he truly knows me like he say’s than he should know where I’ve been and what I’m about. I can tame and discipline him but I have no problem getting in a dog fight, it’s totally up to him !!!
