The big amateur boxing fighters who stood out at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still making their way into the professional field and now it’s the turn for the 52 kilogram gold medal winner, Brit Galal Yafai.
The 29-year-old fighter has signed a promotional contract with Matchroom Boxing and plans to make his debut on February 27 at the London event, which will have Lawrence Okolie Michal Cieslak face off as the main fighter.
Yafai won the gold medal in a very complicated division, he had to beat opponents like the Cuban Yosbany Veitia, the Kazakh Saken Bibbosinov and the Filipino Carlo Paalam. In the category there were other big names like the Colombian Yuberjen Martinez, the Irishman Brendan Irvine or the Spaniard Gabriel Escobar.
Yafai comes from a family of good fighters and is the brother of former world champion Kal Yafai. He is making his entry into professional boxing triumphantly in the flyweight division and the boxing world is anxious to see what he is capable of at this new stage of his career.
