‘Game of Thrones’ on Broadway? I don’t need this
He is a monitor a weekly column Dedicated to everything that happens in the world of WIRED culture, from movies to memes, from TV to Twitter.
This week, The Hollywood Reporter yours exclusive Revealing that George RR Martin is working Game of Thrones play. Yes, really. Martin is abandoning your requests to finish Winter winds and instead, he has to collaborate with playwright Duncan MacMillan and director Dominic Cooke to bring Ned Stark and Jaime Lannister to Broadway. And the West End. And Australian somewhere. I’m sorry, though paraphrase Krusty the Clown: This, I don’t need.
Look, everyone is missing out Game of Thrones. Last season I felt the urge to ride in the wrong turn that is malfunctioning at the state fair, but there were six and a half very good TV seasons there. There are already like six spinoffs in the works, does anyone need a play? Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either. We were already in excessive territory and that is excessive. I’m not saying he will not go see this when it opens. At the moment I miss the theater, I would go to live reading Zack Snyder’s Justice League end credits — but man. Suddenly stage production Dexter: Teenagers it looks attractive.
Part of this can be attributed Game of Thrones burn. It was an epic show, sometimes beautiful, and all of these attempts to resurrect his corpse can be like cheapening the original experience. But there’s something else: Why don’t you offer a stage play with literally any other author or TV creator? There are many! Personally, I would like to see what Pose Showrunner Steven Canals would perform on Broadway. Or, do you know who will be waiting to produce a great single woman show? Michaela Coel. Maybe we could get stage production Doll Russia? If there is a play by a complete stranger looking for a shot that he will not throw, someone can create a play.
Again, that doesn’t mean Game of Thrones the play is going to be bad — there has been something kind of Shakespearean about the intricate family dramas of Martin in the world — it seems pretty useless. Considering where things are, it looks like Broadway may reopen in September, at which point it will be about 18 months before it reaches any production stage. The Thrones The play isn’t set to hit the stage until 2023, but even then it’s likely to still have a lot of demand after a dark year and a half on Broadway. It would be nice to see them bounce back with some awesome original productions. It is true a Thrones production could secure a lot of input sales at a time when the industry needs it, but it would be gratifying to see those dollars move to something else.
Just because you have a nice idea doesn’t mean it’s necessary. I like it Godzilla vs Kong NFTs or Son of the mask, only a few cultural properties are required. Others, such as bi Knives sequels on Netflix or all that Lil Nas X does and is doing right now. I find it strange, when there is a mega-culture, but in this one that is not monoculture, to say that nothing is too saturated, but in terms of dark fantasy, the world is fully equipped. Maybe it’s time to give up Thrones only.
