Canadiens vs Ducks Game Day

Game preview

A look back

The Canadiens started well as Mike Hoffman slapped past a rippling puck Cam Talbot just one minute and 23 seconds into the game. But the Wild then scored five unanswered goals Cayden Primeau, drawn after two periods. The Wild have scored three more times in the third period matching their franchise record for goals.

Players to watch

  • Mike Hoffman
Hoffman has played with more pep in the last six games and contributed three goals and an assist for four points. With the deadline seven weeks away, Hoffman increases its value in the trading market.
  • Rem Pitlick
Since being acquired by the Canadiens, Pitlick has made himself comfortable and contributed two goals and an assist in six games played. The 24-year-old forward was versatile by finding himself on center and wing while playing up and down the series.
  • Ryan Poehling
While Poehling has only two points in his last ten games, he has not allowed the lack of quality linemen to limit his effort. Because Poehling is a large body, Poehling was a great addition to the power struggles that win opponents and go to the front of the net.

Keys to victory

  • Play with energy
The Canadiens should feel energetic after a few days of practice and may face a tired opponent. The Ducks will play the second half of a rugby game after losing in a shootout against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
  • Create offense
The Ducks are on a roll with points in their last three games. The Canadiens will have to start well and establish a first period lead by going to the net.
  • Stay disciplined
The Ducks are strong because special teams are one of only five teams in the league that occupy the top 10 in both power play and penalty goals. The Canadiens will want to stay out of the box and focus on keeping the game on equal strength.

Pre-game quotes
Lukas Vejdemo

  • “I think I am a smart player. So, I try to read plays and be in the right places, and then I also used my skate to look ahead and not make it so easy to set up. This is what I usually do in Laval and this is what I will try to do here if I also play PK, to use my strengths. ”

Game expectations
The Ducks are currently in a playoff position and occupy second place in the Pacific Division. They should not be taken lightly. The Canadiens eventually returned home after a 10-day road trip where they set a 1-3-3 record and sit in 32nd place in the league.

Bottom Line

With injuries, COVID and a change of management, there was a lot of tension on the players. Now they have to wonder about their future with trade winds swirling. This team has been through so much halfway through the season. They just need to stay focused on the job at hand and take it game by game.
