The USA men’s curling team stole the show at the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics when they earned the program’s first gold medal. Team USA vs Russia WInter Olympics Curling Preview
It has been 16 years since the United States’ men’s curling team won their first medal, a bronze, at the 2006 Winter Games. Now, the program looks for another first – medals in back-to-back Olympics. Gold is the hope, but to say it is the expectation is a stretch. Canada, Great Britain, and Sweden are much more consistent contenders and are looking to push ahead of the Americans.
Still, there’s no time like the present for Team USA Curling to come of age and show that they belong. Three of the five members from the 2018 team are back for the Beijing Games, and there’s hardly a drop-off with their additions. Joining the returning trio of Matt Hamilton, John Shuster (captain), and John Landsteiner are Colin Hufman and Chris Plys. Hufman, making his Olympic debut, is a 2018 men’s world champion. For Plys, this is already his second event of the Games after he competed with Vicky Persinger in the mixed doubles curling competition where they finished in eighth in Beijing. This is the second Olympics for Plys, who competed on the 2010 team in Vancouver, Canada.
