Jake Paul news, rumors, next fight: Look at potential future opponents, return dates

Jake Paul, five fights in his professional boxing career, has proven he can draw eyeballs and attention to the sport. He also delivered some knockout blows with highs, albeit at a dubious level of opposition.

Most recently, Paul fought in a rematch with former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and scored a cruel knockout that left Woodley on and off minutes after the fight.

Given the level of attention he gives to his fights, there has never been a shortage of fighters, athletes and other celebrities claiming they want a chance at the social media superstar. It seems that Paul is ready to finally reject any criticism he has not yet faced a “real boxer” during his pugilistic career.

With that in mind, let’s look at the status of Jake Paul’s career and what may be next for one of the sport’s most controversial stars.

When will Jake Paul fight “a real boxer”?

It’s worth remembering that Paul did try to challenge someone with real boxing training and real, verifiable boxing victories for his last fight. Tommy Fury pulled out of the fight late and left Paul to find a replacement for the brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury. This led to the reunion with Tyron Woodley, who Paul won with a shockingly brutal knockout blow. Fury ticked off the blocks that people asked of a Paul opponent, even though it represents a certain type of 7-0 record in the sport, with his seven professional opponents having a combined record of 14-175-5. Clearly, if Paul had won that battle, it would not have done much to silence the doubters.

Still, a fight with Fury remains a possibility, just like a fight with former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In a recent interview, Paul said he likes the Chavez fight because he believes he can win and that it’s a lot of critics.

As for Fury? Paul said: “I’ve said it before, I do not want to take the fight to him. He does not deserve it. I would rather fight with Tyson. I will fight against his brother or his father before I fight with Tommy.”

Where things stand with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul is interested in making the fight happen and Chavez has also expressed interest. There have been talks that offers have been made and if both sides are interested, it is a compelling battle on a number of levels. Both men have great personalities that made them controversial figures. Chavez was a bit of a disaster as a professional and Paul comes from the disaster world of social media influencers. Yet it’s actually hard to say the YouTuber is not the more dedicated professional boxer in 2022 compared to Chavez, who is constantly finding ways to disappoint and damage his family legacy.

It’s also worth remembering that Chavez is not exalted for taking anything from a circus fight. He fought former UFC champion Anderson Silva in June 2021, and clearly lost the fight to Silva, although he somehow managed to secure one of the three official scorecards only by split decision. to lose. That vulnerability combined with a former world champion probably makes Chavez extra attractive as an opponent for Paul.

What other names might be on the table?

Tommy Fury: Despite Paul’s statement that he does not want to give Fury the opportunity or payday, especially after Fury pulls out for the first time, there is interest and money in the fight. These are two things on which Paul thrives. If Chavez falls through, Fury is the best option.

Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal: To be clear, any fighters under UFC contract are not for any real consideration, even if their names are mentioned over and over. Paul likes to throw out big UFC names because he knows the UFC and President Dana White will not allow it, while also knowing that it really comes under White’s skin to make some clean verbal shots. Yet we are going to see that all sides keep talking about these battles that are simply not going to happen.

Expected return date

Although no official date – or opponent – has been set for Paul’s next fight, he has fought about once every four to five months. This will put him in the ring next in April or May.

Is there any chance Paul is fighting for the UFC?

There’s an approximately zero percent chance that Paul’s set foot in a UFC Octagon without being left in handcuffs and a charge of trespassing. Paul has talked a great game about fights in the UFC, but most of it is a blower to continue to get under White’s skin. These include Paul’s offer to step out of the box and join the UFC to fight Masvidal if the UFC inflates their entire pay structure.

Paul’s quest for higher fighter payouts in the UFC made him something of a folk hero to many MMA fans, but that crusade, combined with his brutal verbal shots at White, blew up any chance of ever seeing Paul enter the Octagon.
