Fans were shocked by the news of Jeremy Stephens’ UFC release.
And they were even more shocked then just days after he was signed by PFL.
Now he talks about what happened to the UFC and why he decided to sign with the Professional Fighters League.
“I asked [the UFC] to give me a favorable match, ”said Stephens The MMA Hour. “I have been fighting animals for two decades, a killer rowing, and I just felt like I was touching ice. Fight only once a year, it’s not good on the bank account. I just try to be typical, just like you, I try to provide for my family and the only way I can do that is to fight, and they did not really fight with me. ”
“I was given options to go to other places as soon as that contract expired. I did not even realize I was on the contract. It must have been almost five months since the contract was signed, and I did not realize my contract was up. “I thought I had another fight there, and I was looking for my options and PFL, we’re going to do our best to knock everyone out and get a million dollars.”
Stephens explained the reasons why he decided to move with the PFL over to another organization include the chance to fight Anthony Pettis again.
“Definitely a potential match,” Stephens said. “But I saw Anthony Pettis at the UFC, we hung out, shook hands, but honestly brother, he looked fat and out of shape. His cheeks looked like cheeseburgers. That boy seems to be getting paid too much. So I would love to turn it back on with Anthony.
“Last time I changed a wrestler from him, he just wanted to wrestle me all the time. We were in a different place and space at that time, I think now we can bring a lot more violence and action-packed, and I’m going to be in better shape than that boy, believe me. He eats too well. ”
