The property was disappointed after Nike withdrew “limiting the availability of Kobe products” in 2016 and died in a helicopter crash in January 2020, DePaula said. “Kobe shoes are not available in children’s sizes” frustration also appeared.

“Kobe and Nike have made some of the most beautiful basketball shoes worn and adored by fans and athletes from all sports around the world,” Vanessa told DePaul. “It seems appropriate for more NBA players to wear their husband’s product than any other shoe. … My hope will always be to let Kobe fans get their products and wear them. I will continue to fight for that. Kobe products are sold out in seconds. He says it all.

“I was hoping to create a lifelong partnership with Nike that would reflect my husband’s legacy. We will always do everything we can to honor the legacy of Kobe and Gigi. That will never change.”

Nike confirmed that the relationship is over, and said in a statement that Bryant is “an important part of Nike’s deep connection to consumers” and that he is still “a much-loved member of the Nike family.” The company offered an extension to Vanessa and the estate, but the structure of the deal fell short of expectations, according to DePaula.

Lakers guards Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Talen Horton-Tucker reacted to the news Monday night when Los Angeles lost to Utah. Both players said they will try to buy more pairs with Nike to make a break in future releases.

It’s unclear whether Vanessa and Bryant have discussed the new partnership with other brands.
