Lucas Vazquez: Real defender could miss second leg of Liverpool Champions League quarter-final clash Football News
Lucas Vazquez is doubtful for Real Madrid in the second round of the quarter-finals against Liverpool.
The leaders of the Spanish League have confirmed that they have a sprained knee ligament after being forced to Barcelona in the Clasico victory.
Vazquez replaced Alvaro Odriozola in the 43rd minute with a 2-1 victory. Federico Valverde was also sent off in the second half.
Real Madrid said on Sunday: “After tests by Real Medical Services today on Lucas Vazquez, he has been diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
Also in doubt are central defenders Raphael Varane (Covid-19) and Sergio Ramos (after losing the first leg on April 6). Real won 3-1.
A double by Vinicius Junior and a goal by Marco Asensio sealed the first leg for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
It was the first time the sides had faced each other since the 2018 Champions League final and Vazquez played the entire match at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
After winning the league against Barcelona, Real Madrid have tied the points at the top of Spain, having played one more game than their opponents.
