NASCAR: 2022 Busch Light Clash Qualification

Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the first ever NASCAR Cup Series race at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

For the first time in the 44-year history of the annual NASCAR The Busch Light Clash will be held at a location other than Daytona International Speedway.

Last year’s event was the first in racing history not to be held at the Daytona Beach, Florida track’s four-turn, 2.5-mile (4,023-kilometer) high-bank oval, as it was on the 14-turn, 3 , 61 miles has been combated. (5,810-kilometer) roadway.

But this year’s race will compete at a purpose-built quarter-mile oval in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home of the USC Trojans soccer team.

With the change in location, NASCAR introduced a new format for the Busch Light Clash.

Tonight, each of the 36 cars on the entry list will make a qualifying attempt in a single car session. Each rider is set to run two laps around the tight track with low embankment, and the best of those two laps will be the lap that counts on the speed map.

This qualifying session will determine the starting lineup for the four 25-lap heat races tomorrow afternoon, with the fastest rider taking the pole position for the first elimination race, the second fastest rider taking the pole position for the second elimination, the third fastest rider taking the pole position for the third elimination race, and the fourth fastest rider to take the pole position for the fourth elimination race.

Those four heat races precede the two 50-lap last-chance qualifying races, which will strengthen the 23-car field for the 150-lap main event.

A complete overview of the new format can be found here.
