NASCAR: 2022 Daytona 500 qualifying

The starting lineups for the Daytona 500 qualifying races, the Bluegreen Vacations Duels, are set following the first qualifying session of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The front row for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway is set following Wednesday night’s single-car qualifying session, as are the full 21-car starting lineups for Thursday night’s Bluegreen Vacations Duels.

The results of these two 60-lap races around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4,023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida will set the full starting lineup for Sunday’s 64th annual “Great American Race”.

Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman locked out the front row for Hendrick Motorsports, giving Rick Hendrick’s team two straight front row lockouts and three in the last four years for this race.

Larson took the pole position by recording a top lap speed of 181,159 miles per hour (49,680 seconds) behind the wheel of his # 5 Chevrolet in the second round of Wednesday night’s qualifying session, which featured the top 10 drivers from the first round.

Bowman qualified in second place, giving him a record-tying fifth front row start for the Daytona 500, with a top lap speed of 181,046 miles per hour (49,711 seconds) behind the wheel of his # 48 Chevrolet.

Bowman has now qualified on the front row for the Daytona 500 in each of the last five years, an all-time record.

Larson and Bowman are set to start their Duel races from the pole position. The odd finishers from the single-car qualifying session are set to join Larson in the first Duel while the even finishers are set to join Bowman in the second.

Also notable from this qualifying session is the fact that Beard Motorsports’ Noah Gragson and Team Hezeberg’s Jacques Villeneuve locked themselves into the field alongside the 36 chartered cars as the fastest two drivers of non-chartered entries, leaving just two spots open.

The Money Team Racing’s Kaz Grala, NY Racing Team’s Greg Biffle, and MBM Motorsports teammates Timmy Hill and JJ Yeley are the four drivers set to battle for those two spots.

Here are the full qualifying results from Wednesday night’s single-car qualifying session.
