NASCAR losing title sponsor after the 2022 season?

Camping World has been associated with the NASCAR Truck Series since 2009, but a recent development raises questions about its future.

Founded in 1995, the NASCAR Truck Series has had several title sponsors, but its most closely associated one has been Camping World.

Camping World has been involved in the series since 2009. It has served as the title sponsor every year since then, except for 2019 and 2020. Its subsidiary, Gander Outdoors and Gander RV & Outdoors, served as the title sponsor of the series for those respective seasons.

Additionally, Camping World has helped sponsor multiple drivers in the Truck Series, such as the returning two-time champion Todd Bodine and 2020 champion Sheldon Creed.

Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis has shown his support for motorsports and the Truck Series by giving drivers these opportunitiesmaking sure unsponsored trucks do not have to appear on track like they have in years past.

But a recent development could be a sign of the impending departure of the longtime Truck Series title sponsor.

Sports Business Journal‘s Adam Stern recently reported that Camping World’s contract with the NASCAR Truck Series expires at the end of this year, and a new deal has not been signed.

Camping World has recently gone on to sponsor other racing series, including Superstar Racing Experience (SRX). With less financial need to sponsor a series that runs just six races per summer and features sellout crowds, it may be a better business decision for Lemonis and company to pull back on their Truck Series sponsorship.

While potential replacement sponsors have not yet been reported, it is worth noting that NASCAR faced the same situation with the Cup Series post-2019.

The sport rejected Monster Energy’s offer to remain title sponsor of the Cup Series for a fourth season in 2020 and instead elected to move forward with a new sponsorship model and run the top-tier level simply by the name with which fans associated it.

If NASCAR can not find a replacement sponsor for the Truck Series, they may just have to do the same thing heading into the 2023 season, if they want a staple series to continue on.
