Burroughs was a Little League World Series star in the early 1990s. He won the 1992 and 1993 LLWS representing Long Beach, California. He is the first American-born player to throw rugby players in the Little League World Series. Then, in 1998, Burroughs became a Padre after the team selected him with the 9th overall pick in the draft. In 2000, Burroughs was named MVP of the Futures All-Star Game. He made the Padres list in 2002 and played for the team for four seasons. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2006, but played only eight games before being selected. He was out of baseball due to injuries from 2008-10 before returning in 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and 2012 with the Minnesota Gemini.
