ORLANDO, FLORIDA | A steady, cold rain fell over the weekend at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions which started the season. Players donned woolen hats, tried their best to swing under all the extra layers, and blew hot air into their icy hands, trying to retain any semblance of feeling. The GPS said Orlando. Outdoors, it felt like a Green Bay Packers game was about to begin. At Lambeau, no less.
Funny, but Ryann O’Toole, a California surfer who now makes a home in Arizona, did not look the least bit intimidated or disappointed. A third round 75 on her way to 13th place bounced off her like a raindrop of Gore-Tex. She worked a lifetime to get here, to finally push past the bouncers and through the door at the LPGA’s winners-only party. A little attitude from Mother Nature is not going to dampen her.
