This is the second time that Bopanna and Ramanathan have celebrated this year, after also winning the trophy at the Adelaide International 1 in January (d. Dodig / Melo). Their only match together before this season was a Davis Cup defeat against Finland in 2021, but the pair now have an 8-0 match record in 2022.

They were made to work for their victory in Pune. Saville and Smith, who also played their first ATP Tour final as a team, passed the first set playoff and were in strong overall danger with knockouts. The Australians got 79 per cent of their first deliveries and won 80 per cent (48/60) points behind first delivery.
Bopanna and Ramanathan still managed to break even twice in the second set, but that forced a Match Tie break that started tense. It was the Indian team that broke loose at 4/4 and embraced the home support to trump five points in a row before reaching the victory with their fourth match point after a tight meeting of one hour and 46 minutes.
This is the second time Bopanna has lifted the trophy in Pune, having also won in 2019 with Sharan Divij. He has now won 21 titles at this level. This is Ramanathan’s second career title after the team’s Adelaide victory.
