SmackDown women’s champion Charlotte Flair has reportedly urged WWE officials to get her Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 38.
As noted, Rousey made her return in the 30-Wife Royal Rumble Match Saturday night in St. Louis won the match by eliminating Flair last. Rousey has been reported to be a SmackDown Superstar for the most part, but she’s scheduled for both shows, starting with Monday’s RAW. It has also been reported that she will face Flair at WrestleMania 38, and that her current contract is good for at least until WrestleMania 39.
In an update, WWE sources report that Flair has been fighting the feud against Rousey for months, according to Weighty Select. WWE has been following Rousey to confirm her return plans since she gave birth to her daughter shortly after giving birth in September.
While Rousey vs. Flair is the blue branding plan for WrestleMania 38, is the word from within WWE that Bianca Belair vs. RAW women’s champion Becky Lynch will also take place. It was the planned feud of earlier this week, but there is no word on whether those plans have changed.
Lynch retained her title over Doudrop at the Royal Rumble, and there was no teasing for her WrestleMania challenger. Belair entered the 30-Woman Rumble Match at # 8 and was the 27th header, thrown out by Flair after getting just one header – Natalya.
Belair and Lynch have been fighting back and forth since Lynch made her surprise return to SummerSlam in August, beating Belair quickly in just 26 seconds for the SmackDown women’s title. The impromptu match was Lynch’s first appearance since taking maternity leave in May 2020, and came because Belair’s original opponent, Sasha Banks, was not allowed to compete.
It will be interesting to see if WWE at Rousey vs. Flair and Belair vs. Lynch stays, and how those shows warm up with Monday’s post-Rumble RAW and Friday’s post-Rumble SmackDown.
Stay tuned for more.
