The San Francisco Dons (21-6, 8-4) head to Moraga to take on the Saint Mary’s Gaels (20-6, 8-3). Both teams have played well in the West Coast Conference this season and are part of the reason that the conference is likely to get four bids. While most people who do not live on the West Coast will not know about these teams, you will now. Live Stream the basketball match HERE

This game will be a bit of an immovable object going up against the unstoppable force. The Dons average 77 points a game while the Gaels allow just a shade under 60 points a game. Regardless of who wins, they’ll be in sitting in second place in the WCC behind Gonzaga.

San Francisco vs. Saint Mary’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Preview

The Dons not only average 77 points per game, but they also limit the shooting of their opponents beyond the arc. They allow their opponents to shoot less than 30 percent from three-point land, while also shooting above 34 percent from there themselves. The Gaels are an excellent shooting team from three as they shoot over 35 percent. However, they do very little in stopping others from shooting there as they allow teams to shoot 34 percent from there.

The Dons will likely rely heavily on Jamaree Bouyea and Yauhen Massalski for their scoring whereas the Gaels utilize the more score-by-committee approach. They have four players who all average in double figures with no one scoring more than 13 points a game so far this season. It’s a nicely balanced approach, but also means there is no go-to scorer throughout the game when the Gaels may just need someone to create their own shot.

While the Dons are a solid rebounding team, the Gaels are actually quite excellent at limiting the other team’s ability to rebound. They allow the sixth-fewest total rebounds by opponents in the country at less than 30 a game. Should either team shoot poorly, this could be huge for second chance opportunities for the Gaels.
