According to a report, Shane McMahon was unhappy about WWE’s decision to keep Seth Rollins out of the Royal Rumble.
A series of creative disagreements led to Shane McMahon ‘s abrupt departure from WWE last week.
The WWE locker room was reportedly angry at Shane O’Mac for largely booking the 30-man Royal Rumble match around himself. Apparently, Vince McMahon gave his son a major role in booking the match that was eventually won by Brock Lesnar. It was reported just a few days after the Royal Rumble that Shane had been released by WWE.
Speaking on Sunday Night’s Main Event (h / t WrestlingNews.co), Dave Meltzer reported that some of Shane’s frustration over the Royal Rumble booking stemmed from the call to remove Seth Rollins from the 30-man Royal Rumble match. The Architect challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship earlier that night. He won the match via disqualification, but the title does not change hands with a DQ ending.
Meltzer believes “the idea was” for Shane and Rollins to begin a program during the Royal Rumble match. But Vince decided to remove Rollins from the 30-man match, and this just led to more frustration for Shane.
“They were going to continue it in the Chamber match and build to a big blow off at WrestleMania, and Vince pulled Seth from the Rumble,” Meltzer said. “So Shane got really mad because that was his program and then that’s where everything escalated from that point.”
Rollins will challenge for the WWE Championship at the Feb. 19 Elimination Chamber in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Bobby Lashley will defend the title against Rollins, Lesnar, Riddle, AJ Styles and Austin Theory inside the chamber.
WWE Reportedly Had Huge Plans For Shane At WrestleMania 38
Shane reportedly engaged in backstage disagreements with both Vince and Lesnar. It was also reported earlier this week that Shane was featured in one of the top spots for the WrestleMania 38 card, but now WWE will have to find a way to replace him.
Shane O’Mac usually competes at WrestleMania, having participated in five of the last six events. Last year, he lost a Steel Cage match to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 37 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see how WWE goes about replacing him for “The Show of Shows.”
