In her first singles match since SummerSlam 2020, Sonya Deville lost to Naomi on this week’s edition of SmackDown on Fox.
On this week’s issue of WWE SmackDown on FOXWWE Superstar, who became official, Sonya Deville, has returned to the ring for her first singles match since August 2020 … but it did not go according to plan.
It all went off on Friday, January 28, at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, when Deville went one-on-one with Naomi – a woman she has been fighting with since August last year. Earlier in the evening, Deville tried to abuse her authority by urging referee Dan Engler to assist her in her efforts to defeat Naomi, but Engler stood firm and informed his boss that he intended to to call the match in the middle.
The game lasted for about 10 minutes, and even though Deville had the upper hand at various points throughout, Deville could not put away the resilient Naomi. Naomi claimed the victory after beating Deville with a split-legged moan and covering her for the 1-2-3. After the bell, a jubilant Naomi celebrated as Deville slowly walked up the driveway. Naomi climbed on the microphone and commemorated the fact that she finally defeated Deville after months of torment … but Deville was not done. The WWE official reappeared on the driveway with a microphone in her hand and revealed that she would be taking part in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble contest on Saturday, January 29th.
Deville has been absent from the in-ring competition since last August. Her last singles match was a losing streak against her former partner Mandy Rose at 2020’s SummerSlam. She then took a few months off and debuted as an authority figure on screen on the January 1 issue of SmackDown. Shortly after her rivalry with Naomi began, Deville teamed up with Shayna Baszler to fight Naomi in a handicap match. Of course, Baszler and Deville won, but it was Baszer who did all the work, while Sonya stole the glory by covering Naomi for the 1-2-3.
Bad Bunny is not the only celebrity to step into the ring for a wrestling match. Bunny and eight other celebs should really consider working another game!
