St. Cloud State beat Miami 8-0 again

ST. WOLK – Relaxation? Which stopover?

You would never have known that the 6th seeded St. Cloud State Huskies were off for three weeks after the way they played this weekend.

One night after ten different goal scorers contributed to an 11-1 victory, six different goal scorers on Saturday night led the way to lead SCSU to an 8-0 beat against the Miami RedHawks, and their NCHC series convincingly swept.

Most head coaches often find one thing to improve on after victories like these, but even St. Cloud head coach Brett Larson had a hard time naming one after his team outscored Miami 19-1 at the weekend.

“I just like that they kept to the game plan all weekend,” he said. “They never got off the screenplay. We did not force things. We have things under control. Definitely our best two games of rugby all year. ”

Kyler Kupka had three assists and seven different SCSU players each had two points. David Hrenak made 14 pushes to reach his 13th career exclusion.

“I think [Hrenak] showed a lot of spiritual strength by being ready when called upon, ”Larson said.

The Huskies gained a big lead after the first period for the second consecutive night. Miettinen started things off with a power play goal, which showed good patience from the right circle before firing a well-placed wrist player past RedHawks goalkeeper Ludvig Persson. Miettinen added another just two and a half minutes later and Kevin Fitzgerald ended the period’s score with a beautiful tik-tak sequence between him, Kyler Kupka and Micah Miller.

The Huskies added three more goals in the second from Easton Brodzinski on a penalty kick, their third goal of the weekend on a Josh Luedtke goal from a 2-on-1 rush, and a Sam Hentges goal in which he scored many Miami players hung up. near the goalkeeper crease before putting the shooter away.

Miller and Fitzgerald each added a third-period goal to end a weekend with very high scores for the Huskies.

“We had a lot of energy. We were so excited to come back, “said Miettinen. “We just had fun out there.”

Despite not playing since beating Bemidji State 5-2 at home on New Year’s Day, St. Cloud not missed a mate. But the passage only gets harder; the Huskies are going to North Dakota, going to Denver, hosting Western Michigan and going to Omaha over the next four weeks.

“Winning does not come easily in this league. “I think we should enjoy it tonight,” said Larson. “I have no problem with them enjoying a good weekend like this for a while.”

According to SCSU play-by-play radio broadcasters Jim Erickson, Larson, Nick Perbix and Hentges will leave for Beijing on January 30 for the Olympic Games after St. Cloud State completed their series next weekend in North Dakota.
