Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will meet on April 30 at Madison Square Garden in one of the most anticipated fights in women’s boxing history. The Irish woman will defend her World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Championship, in addition to her WBC, IBF and WBO belts, against the Puerto Rican.
Taylor and Serrano are today considered two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and fans have been expecting this fight for years.
Taylor was a great amateur fighter, an Olympic medalist, and since becoming a professional, she has swept the 135-pound ranks and created a true mandate in the division. At the age of 35, she will be playing in one of the most media-worthy female fights in history and aims to continue her unbeaten record.
It will not be easy as Serrano, who was a champion in seven weight classes at the age of 33 and has been in professional boxing for more than 13 years, is a historic figure in the sport. The Puerto Rican lost her last fight in 2012 and is now challenging Taylor to further expand her legacy.
Taylor has 20 wins, 6 of them by knockouts, while Serrano has an excellent record of 42 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 30 knockouts.
