The one car still missing from the Daytona 500 entry list

There are already more than 40 entries confirmed for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500, but there could still be one more.

Two more entries were added to the Daytona 500 entry list last week, ensuring that the 40-car field will be full for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway – and that not everybody on the entry list will successfully qualify for the race.

In addition to the 36 chartered entries, five non-chartered entries have now been confirmed for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4,023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Only four non-chartered entries can get into the race, with the single-car qualifying session and then the Bluegreen Vacations Duels reducing the field to 40.

While there is already a guarantee that not everybody will get into the race, there could still be another car added to the entry list to bring the total to 42, which would result in two of the six non-chartered cars being sent home.

That car is the # 44 NY Racing Team Chevrolet.

Greg Biffle, who has not competed in the Cup Series since 2016, was reportedly sighted getting his seat fitted for the # 44 Chevrolet at Richard Childress Racing, which could be indicative of some kind of a partnership.

Biffle, who last competed in NASCAR in a 2020 Truck Series race, has long been rumored to want to make a return to the Cup Series, and this very well could be his opportunity.

NY Racing Team have not competed in a Cup Series race since 2018, and they have not competed in a Daytona 500 since 2015. Like they did earlier this year, they teased a return last year as well, but that did not end up coming to fruition. Whether or not things play out differently this year remains to be seen.

The single-car qualifying session for the Daytona 500 is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 16, and it is set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 8:00 pm ET. The Bluegreen Vacations Duels are scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 17, and they are set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 7:00 pm ET.

Finally, the 64th annual “Great American Race” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 20, and it is set to be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2:30 pm ET. If you have not yet started your free trial of FuboTVnow would be a great time to do so!
