For the first time since the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, pro football can exist without it Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady as an active player.
CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora dropped the bomb news early Friday night that “numerous sources close to” Brady says the seven-time Super Bowl champion “is getting ready to retire” and will officially announce that decision “soon” and “in the coming days” .
“He is very respectful of the game, and has great respect for the Tampa organization and everything they have done for him,” the source told La Canfora. “He understands the consequences this decision will have for the team to move forward, and he will never want to do anything to improve the play-off rounds. Whatever he decides, I would expect him to announce it soon.”
Rumors that Brady, who turns 45 in August, have seriously considered calling time on his one-off career have surfaced earlier this month before the Buccaneers fell in last Sunday’s playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, and he do not deny that rumble immediately after that defeat or the next day while talking to broadcaster and good friend Jim Gray.
Brady toe opened his eyes on Tuesday with a vague Instagram post that offered more questions than answers.
“I understand that at this stage of my career there will be interest in my future when a season ends, but this week all that comes to my mind is the gratitude I have for this team and the fans who supported us. . all year long, ”he wrote at the time.
Brady has long said he wants to keep playing until he’s 45, but his latest remarks suggesting he spends more time with Gisele, his wife and children seem to mean more to him than pursuing an eighth career championship.
