UFC Fight Night Predictions – Sean Strickland vs. Jack Hermansson: Fighting card, chance, start time, live stream

Two middleweights fishing to enter the title picture will battle it out on Saturday night when Sean Strickland and Jack Hermansson compete in the UFC Fight Night main event from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Hermansson (22-6) once looked like he was destined to challenge for gold and strike out four impressive victories in a row, including a big win over Jacare Souza. It all came before a September 2019 TKO loss against Jared Cannonier that knocked Hermansson to enter the title picture.

Hermansson proved in his next fight that he was still a force in the division, and it took less than 80 seconds to submit Kelvin Gastelum with a hook. Momentum continued to swing for Hermansson when he lost to Marvin Vettori before beating Edmen Shahbazyan. Now, for the first time since early 2019, Hermansson will try to win consecutive battles.

“Sean Strickland is kind of similar to me in the way he likes to push the pace. He has good conditioning, he’s very durable. I think that’s his biggest strength. Since I have that kind of strength too, I think it destroys her a little strength, “Hermansson told CBS Sports.” I feel I’m a little more precise. I have a higher fight IQ, if you will, because he is very opportunistic and fights without a plan. His appearance is always similar in all his fights. It makes it easier for me to prepare.Of course I also see myself as the better grappler. When you match us against each other I can see that some things are very similar but I I feel I am performing in some parts. ”

Strickland (24-3) is the man with all the momentum coming into the event. He is currently riding a winning streak of five fights, including a win over Uriah Hall in his most recent heats. After spending most of his UFC career at welterweight, Strickland returned to middleweight four fights ago.

The return to 185 pounds came after a two-year dismissal driven by injuries sustained in an accident in December 2018 in which Strickland was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car.

“You’re just shaking your head. It’s just another crazy thing on the internet. It happened to be my opponent this time,” Hermansson said of Strickland’s strange behavior. “I would not be surprised if he gets the opportunity to do a deathmatch that he will agree to. A fight to the death if the money is right. I feel he is the guy who will say, ‘Yes, I’m will do it. ‘ Probably.”

A six-fight winning streak, five at 185 pounds, will put Strickland firmly in the conversation of men who could challenge the winner of the upcoming middleweight title rematch between champion Israel Adesanya and former champion Robert Whittaker.

Elsewhere on the map, middleweight powerhouse Punahele Soriano is back in a fun match with Nick Maximov. Soriano, the 29-year-old native of Hawaii, suffered his first pro defeat last July in the hands of Brendan Allen by decision. Before that, Soriano had ripped his first two opponents inside the Octagon by TKO. Maximov (24) is undefeated at 7-0 and has grabbed a few wins to start his UFC career.

On top of that, another rising prospect gets a pronounced slot from the welterweight division when Shavkat Rakhmonov returns to take on Carlston Harris. Rakhmonov, a native of Kazakhstan, has been 14-0 unbeaten so far in his career. In two appearances in the Octagon, Rakhmonov lived up to his hype with a few submission wins while wearing a good game. Harris, meanwhile, also grabbed a few wins in his first two Octagon appearances, winning a total of five in a row.

Forecast

Sean Strickland vs Jack Hermansson: Hermansson is a frustrating fighter because he has all the skills to beat almost anyone on any given night. Yet he struggled against strong, physical fighters bringing an aggressive game plan. Strickland fits that bill, with good striking and somewhat overlooked wrestling. It’s not going to be a battle of finesse, it’s going to be a fight where Hermansson is trying to get Strickland paid for a mistake. Unfortunately for Hermansson, this is the kind of struggle he is struggling with. Choose: Sean Strickland via TKO3
