USWNT Vs. Portugal: Time, TV, streaming, US female friendly list

The U.S. women’s soccer team, the world’s number one team, is in some sort of rush. And it’s not going to end against Portugal on Thursday night at Houston’s BBVA Stadium.

The team is in a 39-game winless streak (the third longest in the team’s history), a 53-game home loss (48-0-5) and a 15-game home win. For a good measurement, you can add the initial record of USWNT coach Vlatko Andonovski (17-0-1 in his first 18 games). Given the excellent record set against the 29th-placed Portugal (9-0-0), the U.S. women should have another victory with these marks.

Of course, the final goal of the USWNT is the Olympic gold medal this summer and to select the right direction to help achieve that goal. The players want to impress Andonovski in the coming weeks before naming his last Olympic team.

The round robin team will start the Tokyo Olympics on July 21st. USWNT entered Group G against three tough opponents: Sweden, Australia and New Zealand, all of whom are regulars in major international competitions. The Americans ’first game will be against Sweden, the only nation to score against U.S. women and prevent them from winning this year (they drew 1-1 on April 10).

That’s where the Summer Group games come in. They serve as an adjustment for Tokyo, even if all three opponents don’t go to Japan. But the USWNT will use friendly matches to simulate the weather conditions and cadence of the Olympics, with a two-day break: Thursday vs. Portugal in Houston, June 13 vs. Jamaica vs. Houston and June 16 Nigeria Austin, Texas.
