VENTURA PLANS TO RISE TO THE OCCASION YET AGAIN – B&B Promotions

BG: Hello Kev, first of all how is your health, and how is the right hand feeling?

Ventura: I’m feeling extremely strong and ready to go. My right hand is at 100%. We put the work in as a team and I can not wait for fight night.

BG: You last appeared on Sept 1st 2018, that’s nearly a full year out of action. How painful was it to watch fellow stablemates Terence Crawford, Steve Nelson and Jamel Herring all take center stage while you waited for clearance from the doc just to even start sparring again?

Ventura: It was very tough, I mean cheering on the fellas is cool in all but as fighters we are always itching to get in the ring ourselves. I want to test myself and reach my goals. Those guys motivate me every day to get to where they are at. The whole process affected me physically and mentally but at the same time humbled me and made me hungry. I definitely learned a lot about myself as a person and as a fighter.

BG: Some critics did not even know you hurt your hand in the fight with Reyes. What round did you hurt the hand in and if you did not hurt it, do you believe the fight would have ended with a different outcome?

Ventura: I hurt my hand as early as round 2 but I just kept fighting. I’m a no excuse guy. As fighter’s we are aware of the risks, but we are taught to grind through and deal with the consequences after the fight. I knew it was hurt but did not want him to know it was hurt. But I can tell you this, if my hand did not hold me back, that fight would have ended by ko. But like I said no excuses, as BoMac told me after the fight “Things like that is part of what makes a fighter become whole … overcoming adversity.” Now I know that I can win a fight with one hand lol

BG: Your opponent for this Thursday night is Brian Gallegos. He is known as an ough Mexican fighter out of Vegas. As we know, Vegas is known for top notch sparring too. Is this fight with Mr. Gallegos to big of a risk especially coming off the injury?

Ventura: No, I would not want it any other way. I trust my team and Golden Boy matchmakers. He comes to fight on the inside and I welcome that kind of fight. But that is what he typically does when he is in the ring with other opponents. Once he feels my power, he may box and move. Either way, we have prepared for plan A, B, and C.

BG: Since you last made your debut with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions in 2018, they have signed a deal with DAZN. How do you feel knowing that your fans that can not make your fights when they are out of state, can now watch you on DAZN, Facebook’s Thursday night fights and RingTV.com?

Ventura: The platforms GBP are utilizing are key for my exposure and is what every young fighter craves. My first fight on Ryan Garcia’s under-card live on Facebook produced a small taste of what I feel like I can deliver. Throughout my career, even as an amateur, I tend to rise to the occasion and on Thursday night I will once again.
