As mayor of Kiev, Ukraine, Vitali Klitschko has many serious things to occupy his mind at the moment; what with the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis proving a testing and frightening episode. But the former heavyweight king still found time to talk to Sky Sports about the ongoing situation with Anthony Joshua. It seems that Joshua has decided not to set aside any money, and his reunion with Oleksandr Usyk is – if we look at today’s stories – back for spring.
That’s a good thing, too, according to Vitali, who told Sky Sports News that the Usyk-Joshua rematch “must happen.”
“It’s his decision,” Vitali said of Joshua’s step-aside option. “But my personal opinion? If Joshua steps aside at this moment, when the boxing audience expects a rematch and wants to see Joshua against Usyk, it will show weakness. Joshua, do not do this, please. As fighters, we fight not only for ourselves, but for the audience. The audience decides. If the audience wants the fight, it has to happen. If Joshua steps aside, I’m not sure the interest in Joshua will be that great in the future. ”
Again, it seems like AJ has decided not to set money aside and he is as determined as ever to rule the world again (for a third time). And Vitali, like everyone else, wants to see if Joshua can avenge his loss in September 2021 against Usyk.
“Everyone is expecting the rematch between Usyk and Joshua,” Vitali continued. “Usyk is so strong or did Joshua make mistakes? Who is stronger? That question interests every boxing fan. Let’s receive an answer. Therefore, this struggle must happen. Right now, everyone doubts Joshua is strong enough to fight Fury. He can give an answer in the Usyk battle. “
Vitali said that if AJ can take revenge and defeat Usyk, a Joshua vs. Fury showdown would be “the main battle of the last ten years”.
Indeed, anger against Joshua, eventually, would be great. But can AJ beat Usyk? Can Fury beat Dillian Whyte (who is now widely expected of the WBC champion to face next; yet we still have to wait and see if that four-time delayed wallet offer for this fight takes place tomorrow)? If both Britons come out on top, a unification battle between the two will be bigger than ever, as Vitali says.
