The UFC will bring their circus of Octagon violence back to pay-per-view in February with UFC 271. The card is set to be headlined by one of the most highly anticipated middleweight titles fight in UFC history when current division king Israel Adesanya meets former titleholder Robert Whittaker in a rematch of their UFC 243 title fight from 2019.
The pair have been the only two fighters to hold the UFC 185-pound title over the last four years.
The card also features a massive matchup – literally – in the heavyweight division when ranked monsters Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa face off in an elite clash of power punching stars.

Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker II
This is the rematch UFC fans have wanted for quite some time. In a promotion where immediate championship runbacks happen with regularity, Whittaker was the rare exception to the rule. Despite being a pound-for-pound ranked talent, the Aussie needed to work his way back to a title opportunity. He did that and then some, and now gets a second chance at the big boss of the middleweight division in Adesanya. Their first bout only went two rounds. Here’s hoping “Reaper” has made the adjustments to make this a fight that lives up to the stellar talent involved.
Prediction: Adesanya by unanimous decision
Jared Cannonier vs Derek Brunson
While Adesanya and Whittaker fight to see who is the best middleweight of his generation, Cannonier and Brunson will decide who the winner is likely to get in their next defense as champion. While both “The Killa Gorilla” and Brunson are bordering on being MMA greybeards, both are aging to elite status like fine wine. Just like Whittaker worked to become the undisputed top contender, the victor of this clash will decide the NEXT undisputed challenger to the middleweight throne.
Prediction: Brunson by unanimous decision
Derrick Lewis (26-8) vs Tai Tuivasa (14-3)
Lewis vs Tuivasa is a fan service piece of matchmaking at its finest. Both do not look the part of a high-level athlete, but they make up for it with funny man appeal and power that could KO a bull. This fight is not meant to last long and that is what you want in the biggest division in the sport. Outside of pure entertainment value, it is a major opportunity for the Aussie fighter to break through and prove he really has title contender potential, against a former two-time championship challenger.
Prediction: Lewis by KO, round 1
