After several years of waiting, the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-affiliated The Money Team Racing are finally set to make their NASCAR Cup Series debut.
At long last, The Money Team Racing, the NASCAR team associated with legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. are officially set to make their Cup Series debut.
The team had been rumored to make their Cup Series debut a number of times over the last few years, but every time, nothing ended up happening and NASCAR rolled on without them.
The Money Team Racing are set to enter the # 50 Chevrolet in the 2022 season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway later this month.
After posting yesterday that the “wait is almost over”, they revealed their car on Twitter earlier this afternoon.
Kaz Grala was named the driver of the # 50 Chevrolet for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4,023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Interestingly, Grala, who made his Daytona 500 debut with Kaulig Racing last year, tested a Gen 7 Cup car at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval back in October for StarCom Racing. But StarCom Racing shut down after the 2021 season, and that car was sold to The Money Team Racing.
StarCom Racing recently hinted that they had something to do with this announcementand they posted this afternoon as well.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the team will actually qualify for the race, though Grala qualified for it last year under even more pressure with eight cars going for the final four spots.
There are now five confirmed non-chartered entries, and only four can get in. The field is capped at 40 cars, and the 36 chartered entries are all locked into the field. The other four spots are set to be determined by the single-car qualifying session and the Bluegreen Vacations Duels.
The Bluegreen Vacations Duels are set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 from Daytona International Speedway beginning at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, February 17. The 64th annual Daytona 500 is set to be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 2:30 pm ET on Sunday, February 20.
